Picking up where part one left off, Jinady is now staying amidst the group of humans and incubus who’ve rescued him from his mountain-side prison. Defending themselves against dangers as they make their way to a settlement for the humans they save, it becomes quickly evident that everyone in the group has their own reasons for being there and their own roles to play.

There’re a number of new characters to keep straight these chapters. Each of the cast is fairly distinct in their descriptions and personalities but not all of them make enough impact to be immediately unforgettable just yet.

It’s a bit of a shame that there isn’t at least a profile sketch to go with each character to make for easier mental-distinction. As someone who owns nearly all of Yaoi Press’s catalogue, the characters and story resonate with me more on a visual level and that in part likely plays a role in why I find a lack of visual aid difficult to get around at first. This second part does however have a large, full colour image from the story’s sex scene. Pleasantly it has a more polished appearance than this instalment’s cover image, which sports colouring that looks rather rushed.

Most notable and memorable characters however are Scor and Figaru. Both are incubus, with the latter familiar to those who’ve read Yaoi Press’s Winter Demon series. The two characters’s personalities make for a compelling contrast. Scor is brash, harsh and irrefutably at peace with his demonic urges, albeit with his own brand of kindness under all that yellow fur. Figaru on the other hand holds himself on a different moral level than others of his kind. Reserved, calculating in his actions and the leader of their little band, he holds humans in high regard and will not sleep with them for sustenance even when consensual.

As for Jinady, he remains understandably at odds with his new environment. He’s hesitant to trust the incubus after years of imprisonment and torture at the hands of their kind. But there’s an obvious attraction forming for the incubi Figaru whose rather romantic view on sleeping with a human along with his calm demeanour, and not totally readable motives, make him an appealing enigma. That and being attractive obviously doesn’t hurt.

This second part of Incubus Master doesn’t read with the same fluidity the first eventually achieves because of the amount of information readers are required to absorb in such a short period. Still, despite proving a little on the choppy side, part two of Incubus Master offers up another lengthy sex scene for the eager, new characters for the curious and an intriguing plotline for the interested. I personally look forward to seeing how things progress between Jinady and Figaru and hope that the series continues to take its time nurturing the subtle growing attraction with satisfying results.
