Yaoi Club Opens Its Doors

Yaoi Club - For those who love loving boys loving boys.

Digital Manga‘s online “ultimate Yaoi superstore”, Yaoi Club, opened today as promised by the splash page watchers have been seeing for the past few weeks. Those who signed up early for the site recieved an e-mail today offering a %15 discount on their first purchase totaling over $30. The e-mail also offered the following bonuses to some first-time spenders:

“We are also happy to announce that the first 100 people with a purchase of $50 or more will get a free Yaoi Club Original Eco Bag!!

Not just that, the first 20 people with a purchase of $150 or more will get a free autographed copy of “Hot Steamy Glasses” by Tatsumi Kaiya!!!”

The store’s opening was prompt at today at 12pm PST. Fortunately, that translated to 4pm my for me, conveniently after school! After registering, the basic name/age/address deal, I proceeded to surf around and see what this “superstore” had to offer.

As expected, there’s lots of yaoi manga books and light novels. Biggest and best surprise in that regard would be the price on numerous Digital Manga books, including many under $10! Various June and DMP books are going for $4-$10, with 801Media books for $12.99. Certainly prices worth taking advantage of if you’re looking for some of their older releases! There is also a decently sized collection of original Japanese language releases for sale, including books already released in English, some not yet licensed and even some doujinshi for popular series such as Bleach.

Yaoi, yaoi, everywhere. I come for you, Matsuri Akino artbook!

Other boys’ love shinies include art books (both domestic and import), imported magazines, DVDs, t-shirts, snack food and lots of cute little toys, bobbles and accessories. There’s also an advertisement that links to PopJapanTravel‘s e-mail for making reservations for their upcoming, Fujoshi Tour. Note: Fujoshi means, simply, female fan of boys’ love.

Memberships (making the Yaoi Club more like a club I suppose) is also another notable about the site,:

“You can subscribe to an exclusive 1-year Yaoi Club membership for just $15. In addition, you’ll get an additional 5% off orders plus you’ll get a $20 gift card once you’ve reached a purchase of $1000.”

$1000 in boys’ love? Whoa. Though I suppose who’s to say I haven’t spent that much on it over the years already. Easy to lose track when purchasing manga, as I’m sure many would agree. Also, those already registered at Digital Manga’s Akadot Retail, can use the same account here at Yaoi Club.

Overall, it’s about exactly what you’d expect of a boys’ love store, very similiar to the already open EverythingYaoi.com. There’s a fairly nice size assortment of stuff here right now but I wouldn’t yet call it a yaoi superstore. While I can’t say much for the ordering and shipping process yet, minus that the option to use PayPal is there, for now I give it a thumbs up for an actual on-time opening, some cheaply priced DMP books (though they do warn they may not be in perfect shape) and a sanely priced Matsuri Akino artbook (not too late to buy myself a birthday present is it?). Not too sure about the membership deal yet, but we shall see in time, right?

You found fanworks there? Are you sure it's not just that 'Soul Society' mag that actually sanctioned fanworks? ^_^ I'm looking for fan doujinshi and I can't find it on the site.

I've also noticed two pluses – they stock GloBL, and their prices on Japanese Language books are competitive with JPQueen [after shipping]. The only thing that kills me on ordering from JPQ is their shipping charges – since Yaoi Club ships domestic, you'll be paying near or the same price as you would ordering from them.

The Soul Society mag was indeed what I was looking at. Without any descriptions, I made the assumption of doujinshi which I suppose was rather presumptious of me! Thanks for the correction! I didn't know fanworks were given entire sanctioned publications to themselves. Very neat fact :3

It's sort of a sanctioned thing – not sure of the details. It's like the mook Comic Box Jr. It's a mag dedicated to the hottest ani-paro trends; the Soul Society series [I think…] was put out by Kousai and features Bleach shorts from various mangaka. I'm not sure if they're all unknowns, or if they're big name mangaka working for Kousai [I don't follow Bleach enough to find out. :( ]To my knowledge, there's three volumes of Soul Society.
